Hirata san is the good soul of Nankōbō (#55). While there he told me that it was a joy to watch me spending time on the temple grounds. Then he asked me if I’d remember the Tohoku earthquake. Yes, i do, almost daily. He then gave me a wooden plaque with the inscription 『只今通路中』~『pilgrim at work』. The wood is from those many fallen trees from Tohoku -maybe even signifying the many lost humanbeings- having this plaque at hand helps to never forget what happened that day! I’ll keep it close to my heart!
